Weekend with Mimi

My mom came into town this weekend to celebrate Lucas's birthday with us (just a little early). Since we don't get to see each other very often, we had to pack a lot of fun into a short few days.  Here are some of the highlights...

On Friday, I had to work so Mimi satayed home with Lucas. He showed her how awesome he is at climbing the stairs to the playroom, throwing stuff, and eating big kid food like grilled cheese. That afternoon, we headed out to the Dollar Store to pick up the decorations and plates and stuff for Lucas's birthday party next weekend. I'm excited to decorate now. Friday night was a trip to Cyclone Anaya's for Mexican. They REALLY don't know how to do Tex Mex in North Carolina, so a visit from my mom always includes at LEAST one stop for top quality Mexican food. Lucas loved the salsa and quesadillas...seriously thinking I ate too much Mexican food while I was pregnant. This kid LOVES spicy!

On Saturday morning, we had a little family birthday party for Lucas. He got a red wagon that he was SUPER excited about...ran right to the front door and wanted to take it for a walk. (He has learned from hanging out with his friend Ally that wagons take you to the park!) He also got some fun new toys, books, and clothes...thanks Mimi (and mom and dad, too, of course)!

After a lazy day hanging out at home, we headed over to Watters Creek to take some First Birthday Pictures. A whole post on those is pending, but here is one of my favorites:

So...Lucas NEVER gets sugar. He LOVED the cake, but only took little tiny pinches of it at a time. Despite his dainty eating habits, he managed to get plenty of sugar. At dinner, he was laughing and flirting with the waitress...very, very loudly. He was still going strong later that night...at 9:00 (an hour after his bedtime) he was running around like a crazy man, just like...this...! SUGAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After those highlights, we filled the rest of the long weekend playing with Lucas, shopping, playing cards, and crafting for the birthday party. We loved having Mimi here and wish she lived closer so we could hang out more often!
